Fine Jewelry

How long does it take to make an engagement ring or custom piece of fine jewelry?

The typical engagement ring takes about two weeks to create. The typical custom piece typically takes 3-4 weeks to create.

How long does a repair take?

Our production time for jewelry repair is one week or less.

How do I determine a ring size to order?

We will size you when you visit our store. If the finished ring needs a size adjustment, we will adjust the size of your ring in the first 30 days at no cost.

If you are wanting to surprise the recipient of the ring, we can estimate the ring size. After you present the ring, have the recipient come in to our store and we will fine-tune the size of the ring to make it a perfect fit.

I see an item on your web site in white gold. Can I order it in a different metal?

Yes. The majority of our jewelry is available in white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, platinum, and palladium.

How do I clean my jewelry?

You may bring in your jewelry for a steam cleaning anytime. Cleanings are free and just take a couple of minutes.

Can you make new jewelry re-using my gold?

We do not re-use gold because it would create a porous product. We use new gold for pieces. We can apply the value of your gold towards the purchase. We simply weigh your gold on the scale and apply the gold weight value towards your purchase.

Can you make jewelry out of silver?

Yes, we do make jewelry out of silver, when it does not compromise durability. For a piece of jewelry that is to hold a gemstone, such as a diamond ring, silver is too soft and is not a secure option. You will instead want to choose white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, platinum or palladium.

What is the difference between Karat and Carat?

Karat pertains to gold, Carat pertains to gemstones. A karat is a measurement indicating the proportion of gold in an alloy out of 24 parts, so 18K gold is 18/24 parts gold. A carat is a unit of weight used to measure the size of a gemstone such as a diamond.

What is the difference between white gold and platinum?

White gold and platinum appear similar and are both excellent choices for fine jewelry. The two main differences between platinum and white gold are the composition and price. White gold consists more of a mixture of durable metals like nickel, zinc and copper while platinum is more pure with 95-98% platinum composition. More platinum is needed to make a ring though, causing the price to be 40-50% more.

What is the difference between 10K, 14K, and 18K gold?

Most people choose 14K whether it be for white gold, yellow gold or rose gold. The most noticeable difference between each karat option is the gold color. Because pure gold is naturally yellow in color, the higher the karat, the more yellow the metal will appear.

For yellow gold, this means 18k will have the richest yellow color, while 10k and 14k yellow gold will look slightly lighter or whiter in color.

For white gold, there is not a noticeable color difference. This is because white gold is rhodium plated in order to achieve a brilliant white color.

Finally, with rose gold, you will notice 10k is the most pink, while 18k has a slightly warmer, more subtle pink gold hue.

10k gold - 10 parts gold to 14 parts alloy metals, 41.6% gold

14k gold - 14 parts gold to 10 parts alloy metals, 58.3% gold

18k gold - 18 parts gold to 6 parts alloy metals, 75% gold

Diamonds

Are your diamonds certified?

Yes. We sell natural diamonds certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), a non-profit institute that developed the Four Cs in diamond grading (cut, color, clarity, and carat weight).

Do you offer lab grown diamonds?

In addition to the aforementioned natural diamonds, we also sell lab grown diamonds.

Are lab grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. Lab grown diamonds have the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as natural diamonds.

What if a little diamond falls out?

We stand behind our craftsmanship. If any of the little diamonds fall out of your ring, we will replace them for you at no cost. To protect your larger center diamond, we recommend that you drop by our store anytime to have us check the prongs and clean the ring. We also recommend that you insure your ring with your insurance provider to protect against loss or theft.

Are your diamonds ethically sourced?

Yes, all of our diamonds are conflict free. We support the Kimberly process and only buy diamonds from companies that support the Kimberly process.

The Kimberley Process (KP) is a joint governments, industry and civil society initiative to stem the flow of conflict diamonds – rough diamonds used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments. The trade in these illicit stones has fuelled decades of devastating conflicts in countries such as Angola, Cote d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sierra Leone. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) imposes extensive requirements on its members to enable them to certify shipments of rough diamonds as ‘conflict-free’. As of December 2009, the KP has 49 members, representing 75 countries, with the European Community and its Member States counting as an individual participant.

What are the Four Cs of diamond grading?

The Four Cs of diamond grading are cut, color, clarity and carat weight. Cut: More than any other attribute, it is the cut that makes a diamond brilliant and beautiful. A diamond that is well cut reflects light internally and displays a dazzling shower of light back through the top of the stone.

Color: The finest diamonds are colorless, rare and expensive. On the GIA grading scale below, D-F are considered colorless, G-J near colorless and any grade K or below shows an increasingly yellowish tinge. Beyond the preference for a whiter stone, however, the color of a diamond does not affect its brightness or sparkle.

Clarity: Diamonds with fewer flaws (inclusions) are rare and therefore more highly prized. In many cases, these flaws don't detract from the beauty of the diamond because they are invisible to the naked eye.

Carat: The weight of diamonds are measured in carats. One carat is equal to 1/142 of an ounce. Most people think of carat weight as the size of a diamond. However, two diamonds of the same weight can look completely different in size. If a diamond is cut deep and narrow, it will look much smaller than another diamond of the same weight that is cut shallow and wide.

Can we re-set my family diamond?

Yes. We have reset hundreds of family diamonds in a variety of settings. You can bring your diamond to our store and we will help you select a new setting. Our master jeweler takes great care in setting your family diamond.

Do you set gemstones other than diamonds?

Yes. Because we do all of our gemstone setting right here in our store, we are able to set any kind of gemstone. Popular examples include Aquamarine, Emerald, Garnet, Moissanite, Morganite, Peridot, Ruby, Sapphire, Tanzanite, Topaz, and Tourmaline.

How do I determine my ring size?

This is the most important aspect of your purchase. DO NOT simply guess your ring size, and don't use an online printable sizing guide--it won't work at all.

To get an INITIAL idea of what size you THINK you will need, it is best visit at least 2 professional jewelers or jewelry counters on DIFFERENT DAYS to have your finger sized. Keep in mind that the width of the ring will also influence how the ring fits, so it is best to know how wide you want your ring to be before visiting the jeweler.

Making more than one visit to a different jeweler will give you a better result, as our fingers FLUCTUATE depending on many factors such as diet, weather, alcohol intake, medications, etc.

Once you have an initial idea of the size you think you need, we absolutely recommend purchasing our ring test size kit before you order your ring because: Over 75% of our customers who order the test size kit end up choosing a TOTALLY DIFFERENT SIZE than what they were told they needed by their jewelers after they have worn our test size rings.

THIS MEANS: After you visit 2 jewelers to get your size, there is still a 75% chance you don't know your correct size!

How do I determine my ring width?

Our bands are available in 6, 7, and 8mm widths. Width will affect the fit of your ring--the wider the band, the tighter the width. If, for example, you wear a size 9 in a 6mm band, you'll probably wear a 9.25 or larger if you choose an 8mm band. To determine the best width, we recommend ordering our Ring Test Size Kit.
